

Leo C. Zeferetti, 90, of Davie, FL and formerly of New York, passed away on March 21, 2018. Born July 15, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY to Antonino and Catherine Zeferetti, he attended public schools in Brooklyn, New York University in 1963, and Baruch College from 1964 until 1966. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, he served from 1944 to 1946.
Mr. Zeferetti was Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives from New York. He served as a corrections officer with the Department of Correction, New York City, from 1957 until 1974, was a member of the New York State Crime Control Planning Board from 1972 until 1974, and a representative to President's Conference on Correction, 1971. He was elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-fourth and to the three succeeding Congresses. He represented the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn for four terms. In addition, Mr. Zeferetti was the President of the Corrections Officers Benevolent Association for twenty years.
Survived by his daughters, Linda Zeferetti and Jan Z. Leonardo; grandchildren, Leo and Barbara; and great grandchildren, Brananna, Vincent, and Christopher. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Barbara, in 2010; they will be laid to rest together at South Florida National Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Fred Hunter's University Drive Home. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at St. Benedict's Episcopal Church followed by burial at South Florida National Cemetery.
