

His impact and contribution started in the year 1950 and particularly December 6, of that year when he took his first breath of air. Since then, his parents and others close to him became aware of his quiet but noticeable assertiveness. Leon was born to Clinton and Edith Curtis (posthumously) who later went to live and work in England in the 1950s. Leon got his primary school and early high school education in England.
The family returned to Jamaica where Leon finished 6th form at St. Jago High School and later returned to England for university education and gained a degree in electrical engineering. On returning to Jamaica, Leon worked as an electrical engineer with the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation all while teaching Mathematics at Exced Educational Center. During his time in Jamaica, he met Cassilda Burke and together they had a son Sean Curtis.
Leon returned to England and did his Masters in Computer Science. He then married Elizabeth a nurse of Jamaican origin and settled in the United States. They both had similar passions and became wealth advisers with Primerica Financial Services’ while Leon also lectured at Miami Dade Community College from 1999 to the time of his passing. He also lectured at the Florida International University as a visiting lecturer in Microsoft Business and Internet Software Applications, Web design and Usage from 1999 to 2003.
The union dissolved and Leon met Sandra Gocher who has been his companion over the past years in Miramar, Florida. Leon always described her as his caring partner and friend even up until his passing.
Leon was also a certified Yoga instructor, also instructed in Chess, Jazz and Ancient Egypt.
His life in the education industry and his social interactions have undoubtedly touched and transformed lives in immeasurable ways. He was a philosopher of no mean order and was an asset to his beloved ethnic group. His commitment to Pan Africanism was laudable.
Leon was a devoted friend, humorous and was easy going – he saw life as never ending and he will be greatly missed.
