

Margaret M. Rose
Passed peacefully at home after a short illness, surrounded by loving family on 11/21/21 at 11:11pm. Born in Birmingham, Alabama on 10/15/29 and raised in Hollywood, Florida, Margaret graduated from South Broward High School and was known in the Hollywood community for her vocal, acrobatic and dance talent, performing at Young Circle and in many early parades in Hollywood’s history. She attended the University of Miami and Florida Atlantic University (BAs Music Education/Elementary Education) and Florida Atlantic University (MA in Education).
Margaret was known as one of the pioneers of Hollywood with her beloved husband, Captain Laury Dale Rose Badge #15, of the Hollywood Firefighters. The Broward County Board of Commissioners and the Historical Commission presented her with the Modern Pioneer Award in 2001 for her efforts as a good and productive citizen contributing to the growth and development of Broward County, Florida.
Throughout her career as an educator, Margaret served Broward County in Hollywood Hills Elementary, Bethune Elementary and ended her service lovingly working with severely disabled children at the QUEST Center in Hollywood, Florida. Margaret was granted the Teacher of the Year Award in 1997 by the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and the Mr. Holland’s Award in 1998 at the QUEST Center in Hollywood, Florida.
Margaret was an accomplished musician having studied Voice at the University of Miami and numerous instruments during her years at university. In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, working with stained glass, ceramics and china painting. She volunteered monthly at Memorial Hospital’s Stroke Support Group and Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s Hospital. Margaret was also active as a member of the Hollywood Firefighter Retirees Association, Inc.
Margaret is survived by her loving children, Rabbi Anna Rose Sugarman (and of the late husband, Rabbi Monte Sugarman) of Saratoga Springs, NY and Mark Stephen Rose (and wife Lissette) of Orange City, FL, three adoring grandchildren, Rachel Sugarman of Augusta, ME, David Sugarman (and wife Tal) of Rehovot, Israel and Benjamin Sugarman of Fort Lauderdale, FL and three great grandchildren (Izabelle Hamlin, Harel and Maya Sugarman) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Blessed with an angel caregiver, Bernice Dillon. Always in our hearts, Margaret will be sorely missed by her family and many friends who she touched with her life.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 27 from 11am to 1pm followed by funeral services at 1pm at Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, Florida. Interment will follow at Fred Hunters Hollywood Memorial Gardens West.
Contributions can be made in her honor to the American Heart Association and the Hollywood Historical Society.
