

Maria Luisa Freire de Figueroa, 91, of Guayaquil, Ecuador and long-time resident of Davie, Florida, passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2018. She was surrounded by her six devoted children and five of her eleven adoring grandchildren.
Maria Luisa was born on March 10, 1927, in Guayaquil, Ecuador where she grew up and spent most of her life. In 1949, she married Eusebio Figueroa Troya. Their union lasted thirty-nine years until his passing in 1988. During their union, Maria Luisa and Eusebio built a home for their children. This home would go on to become the extended family nucleus for generations to come.
Maria Luisa moved to the United States in 1992, where she spent the next twenty-six years always surrounded by her children and many of her grandchildren.
Maria Luisa was known for her delicious Ecuadorian cooking, feisty sense of humor, sharp one-liners, her eye for fashion, her unwavering faith in the Lord, and was considered by all as a pillar of strength. Mami Maruja, as she was known, will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Maria Luisa is survived by her children: Nancy Figueroa de Costales, Letty Figueroa de Feijoo, Martha Figueroa Freire, Xavier Figueroa Freire, Patrica Figueroa de Avecillas, Sonnia Figueroa de León; her eleven grandchildren, and six great-grand children.
Family and friends will gather at Fred Hunter's Funeral Home, 2401 S. University Drive, Davie, FL, on Saturday, May 12 starting at 10 a.m. for Visitation. Service will begin at 11:30.
