

He was born January 27, 1919, to Benton and Beryl Prather in Ravenwood, MO, the 7th of 8 children. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, 2 sisters and 5 brothers. After graduation from high school, he entered the U.S. Army, where he served 4 and 1/2 years as a Staff Sergeant. During WWII, at the Battle of the Bulge, he was taken prisoner by the Germans and was held for 6 months. He was liberated on April 29, 1945. He was very proud of being a WWII veteran. He married Viola Ness an Army Nurse, in 1943, who preceded him in death. To this union, one daughter, Donna Jeanne Brockus, was born. He married Betty Cormack in 1954. To this union, two children were born. James Prather and Janet Hostler. Laura Melton joined our family in 1970.
He was a graduate of Philips University in Enid, Oklahoma, and was ordained to the ministry in the Christian Church in 1949. In 1999, he was ordained as an Elder in the Church of the Nazarene.
During his lifetime of ministry, he ministered to churches in Oklahoma, Iowa, Texas, Oregon, Colorado, and Florida. He is survived by his beloved wife Betty of 61 years, 4 children, 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and a host of precious friends. A Celebration of his faith and his life will be held 10:00am Monday, January 11, 2016 at the Hollywood Church of the Nazarene.
