The family of Mary Chambers Blackburn announces her peaceful passing at the age of 88. Widow of James Walter Blackburn Jr., she was born and educated in North Carolina and moved to Florida in 1947 for adventure and opportunity. Initially, working as an English teacher at the old Ft. Lauderdale High School she quickly caught the eye of a young James Blackburn. Soon they married and started a family. She raised three boys with equanimity and grace, always striving to do her best. She will be remembered for her unyielding optimism, unwavering faith, tenacious spirit, and devotion to her family. She finished the race and kept the faith. She is survived by her three sons: Jim, David and Stephen and their spouses; four grandchildren and two great grandsons. A private service is planned at a later date.
