Captain Michael Louis Calicchio was born and began his journey on 07-24-1924 in East Boston. He was one of five brothers and sisters and resided in the Orient heights area. He grew up there as a child and at the age of sixteen, he joined the Merchant Marine due to his love for the sea. Almost immediately, Michael was called to serve in WWll and did so heroically under the Branch of the United States Coast Guard. After the war, Michael served in the Merchant Marine for 46 years with 36 of those years as a Captain. Upon retiring, Michael called Key Largo, Florida his home. He traveled around the states in his motor home and enjoyed the outdoors. Michael had three children of his own and many other family members including nieces, nephews and step children. He touched many people in his life and his laugh was infectious. Michael's journey here on earth ended on 03-04-2017. This is only temporary as his new journey begins. He will be thought of often, missed dearly and loved always.
