On Monday, August 29, 2022, Miguel "Mike" Z. Castillo, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 68. Mike was born on July 9, 1954 in Havana, Cuba and moved to Chicago, IL in 1967 with his mother, Herminia, and siblings, Gonzalo, Cachita and Juany. In Chicago, his love for baseball, more specifically the St.Louis Cardinals, was amplified on his walks home from school. He later moved to Miami, where he was blessed with his daughter, Giselle, from his first marriage. At the age of 17, he began working for National Car Rental as a service agent where he met friends that would last a lifetime, and his future wife, Christine. In April 1987, Mike and Christine Castillo were married; they lovingly raised their daughter, Cristina, and son, Nicholas.
To know Mike was to love him and his heart of gold. Mike was the dad who you could count on to help with all the school activities (and show up 30 minutes early!), be cheering on the sidelines of his kids sports games, and be there for after-school pick up with snack ideas for the drive home. When he wasn't busy with his kids, you could always find Mike with his Mimi. He was the best son-in-law, any mother and father could ask for. From grabbing breakfast or lunch every Friday to their weekly grocery shopping trips, they were inseparable; these best friends made the most mundane tasks an adventure filled with laughs and memories of their angel, Fred.
Mike took loyalty to the heart, evident in his never-ending loyalty to the Dallas Cowboys. Through the highs and lows of life, you could always count on Mike to have your back and tell you "Hang in there and never give up!". Mike's passion for life was contagious; he was the one you want to cheer you up with a joke, funny face or hug when you need it most. He was the truest friend, most adoring son and brother, the best dad, uncle and Abuelo (to Gabriel, Malachi and Genesis), and the most loving husband and partner in life. He will be greatly missed by all those who loved him, but we know he is at home with the angels.
His family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficulty time. An intimate family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, his family asks for donations to be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation (link below) in memory of Mike Castillo.
