

He was born in Philadelphia, but grew up in Jenkintown, PA where he graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School before joining the Navy where he was awarded a Plaque for Honor Man of his company. While stationed in Newfoundland, Canada he met his soon to be wife, Margie. After his honorable discharge, they moved to Florida where he graduated from George T. Baker Aviation School with his A&P License. He opened an FAA Repair Station and was in business for 55 years before his retirement in 2019.
He loved his work and became a specialist in his field of aviation. He enjoyed his time at home and spending it with family and friends. His wife of sixty years, his children and grandchildren were always his pride and joy. He was kind, generous and thoughtful, always ready to lend a helping hand. He was a continuous member of the American Legion for 55 years. Gene, your aviation friends are waiting for you at the gate, soar with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel & Catherine Plunkett, his brothers Daniel & Vincent and his sister Patricia. He leaves behind his loving wife Margie, daughter Karen Power and husband Jim, son Jim Plunkett and wife Mary, aunt Lorraine Markowski and husband Tom, aunt Ann Delaney, sister-in-law Johne Plunkett, brother-in-law John Sierzenski, close cousin Ann Clothier as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Celebration of Life for Gene will take place at St David's Catholic Church on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 10:00am. 3900 South University Dr, Davie, FL 33328. A reception will immediately follow at our home, 5420 SW 90th Terr, Cooper City, FL 33328
Interment will take place at Fred Hunter's Hollywood Memorial Gardens with an Honor Guard on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 11:00am. Legacy 5, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, FL 33024.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at St.Jude Hospital
