

Evans, Peggy L. 63, of Pembroke Pines, FL.. passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at home. Originally from Beaver, Pennsylvania, Peggy first earned her Bachelors Degree from Geneva College, followed by a Masters Degree in English Literature from Carnegie Mellon University. She taught English in the Pittsburgh area at the high school and college level for 17 years before moving to Broward County to continue her teaching career. After two years at Nova High, followed by eight at Cooper City, in 1995, she was selected for the position of English Department Chairperson for Flanagan High, which opened the following Fall in 1996, and she continued teaching there for the next 13 years, until her retirement last June. She was teacher of the year for both Cooper City High, in which year she was also a county finalist, and for Flanagan, as well as serving on Flanagans School Improvement and Leadership teams. Besides teaching senior English, she was also Leader for Flanagans Arts and Communications Academy for 11 years, as well as the schools yearbook advisor for 10. In addition, She was a member and avid promoter of the South Florida Writing Project. Though Peggys biological family has all preceded her in death, she is survived by the fondest memories of many and will be remembered as not only an inspirational and gifted teacher of writing and literature, but also a dear friend, wise mentor, patient and compassionate listenerone with a quick wit and even quicker sense of humor. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 15th at Fred Hunters Hollywood Memorial Gardens Home, beginning with a fellowship hour from 3 to 4pm, with memorial service to follow.
