The world lost an incredible mother, Penny Elaine Nakoa, 58, on February 16, 2021. After an arduous and courageous two-year battle with end stage cancer, Penny passed away peacefully at home with her devoted daughter by her side.
Penny was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on July 26, 1962, to John Hertzog and the late Jane Hertzog, nee Fasnaught. She was predeceased by her beloved mother and sister, Tina. She is survived by two children, Michael and Jamie, one grandson, Keakaikaiolani, her former husband and cherished friend, David Keawe, her father, two sisters, Crystal and Candy, three brothers, John, Jay and Jeff, and many nieces and nephews.
Those who knew Penny knew her for her sharp humor, contagious smile, and boundless love for and belief in her children. She was a loyal friend and a formidable source of love, pride, and confidence for those she cared about.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Fred Hunter's in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
