Ramona was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, on July 8, 1936, to Felicita Mercado and Ramon Cruz Custodio. She attended school in Ponce. On December 6, 1959, she married Carlos Cruz in New York City. Ramona worked at Family Record Shop and later devoted herself to being a loving stay-at-home mother.
Ramona was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carlos Cruz; her mother, Felicita Mercado; her father, Ramon Cruz Custodio; her sisters, Mercedes and Carmen; and her brothers, Alberto and Jamie Cruz.
Ramona is survived by her children, Carlos Cruz Jr., Elizabeth Cruz, Joann Delvalle, and Antonio Delvalle; her brother, Manuel Cruz; and her sister, Catalina Cruz. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Richard, Autumn, Andrew, Brian Thomas, Anthony, and Alissa Delvalle; and her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Emily, and Evelyn Thomas. She will also be lovingly remembered by Margarita Lardiere, Reymond Cruz, and many nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly.
Ramona will be remembered for the love and kindness she shared with her family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will remain in the hearts of all those who loved her.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Fred Hunter Funeral Home. Arrangements are by Fred Hunter Funeral Home.
