
Raymond “Ray” Wentworth Clinton peacefully passed away on November 28th, 2019 at the impressive age of 92. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by loving family including his 93 year old wife, Celeste Clinton, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Raymond and Celeste got married on July 1st, 1967 and enjoyed a treasured partnership for fifty two years.
Raymond was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on July 23rd, 1927 to Jennie and Frederick Clinton. He was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters, Leonard Clinton, Robert Clinton, Russell Clinton, Edna Burland, Eleanor Saxton, and Dorothy Primavera. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Loretta Clinton, who he wed on November 18th, 1950. Together they had two children, Diana Moffatt and John Clinton.
Seaman 1st Class Raymond Clinton honorably served in the U.S. Navy. He passionately defended his country during World War II on the USS Price and USS Forster. His admirable bravery earned him the American Theatre Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal, and the Victory Medal. After the war, Raymond became an esteemed employee for the City of Hallandale and was an accountant for sixteen years. In 1991, he was awarded Employee of the Year for his meticulous work. Raymond’s selfless devotion to the community and his reputable bookkeeping skills inspired many. As a result, he was elected both Treasurer and President of the Americans of Italian Heritage Club.
In his free time, Raymond enjoyed savoring delicious, homemade, Italian food prepared by his wife and personal chef, Celeste. They were often seen lighting up the dance floor at the club among a crowd of cherished friends. In his younger years, Raymond was an avid bowler and could rack up quite a score! He also had a green thumb and took pride in maintaining the best yard in the neighborhood. “Poppop” Raymond was influential in helping to raise his two grandchildren, Robert Moffatt and Christopher Moffatt. He was fortunate to also have time to cultivate close relationships with great-grandchildren Olive Moffatt, Griffin Moffatt, Raymond Moffatt, and Elijah Moffatt. Being around these four always filled Raymond with joy and brought out his playful, humorous spirit.
