

Born in North Carolina, on May 25, 1932, son of John W. and Sally N. Barnes. He had one brother, John W. Barnes, II. He was raised in Florence S.C. until he was 12 and moved to St. Ignace, Michigan, when his mother was remarried to Edward "Miles" Balbaugh, his step father. He married Darlene Cornell on October 6, 1951, and they soon began their family of six children: Mary, John, Sally, Bryan, Robert, and Kathy. In 1961 he moved his family to Hollywood FL, and resided at 301 N.W. 67th Avenue until April, 2014, when his health required he move to assisted living.
Richard Barnes was an accomplished diesel mechanic, and he held two (2) patents on inventions he had developed after years of rebuilding and repairing engines. He was an operating engineer, part of the Teamsters Union; and even after he retired, he worked on his own, creating a business called Lockcylinder Systems, Inc. with his wife at his side. They thrived together for several years with their business.
Richard Barnes late wife, Darlene Delane Cornell Barnes, died in 2000. His one brother, John W. Barnes, II, passed away in 1976. He is now survived by Mary Croswell of Maitland, FL, John Barnes of Hollywood, FL, Sally Montoye of Athens, TN, Bryan Barnes of Madison, NC, Robert Barnes of Phoenix, AZ, Kathy Siano Sebastian, FL, and 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Visitation on Saturday, September 13, 2014 beginning at 12 an open viewing, 1 closed visitation at Fred Hunters Hollywood Memorial Home, 6301 Taft Street HOLLYWOOD. A family facilitated Remembrance service will begin at 2 p.m. followed by entombment at Hollywood Memorial Gardens. There will be a reception at Tropical Acres on Griffin Road following the cemetery. Friends and relatives are kindly invited to come and spend the afternoon and early evening with our family.
