Bob was born on January 19, 1938 to Clara Dawn Hadsock in Miami, FL. He spent the first seven years of his life in the Midwest with Margaret Mally. He spent at least a year in an orphanage in Miami before moving to Fort Lauderdale as a foster son in the home of Dick and Audrey Gallion. Two years later when the Gallions adopted baby Suzanne, they also adopted 11-year-old Bob. Then the following year, they welcomed their brother, Jim. Only recently, Bob discovered his two half-sisters, Charlyne and Shari, and their families welcomed each other.
Bob grew up in Fort Lauderdale and graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1956. Following a “gap year” in Alaska, Bob attended Palm Beach Junior College before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. After completing his training, he transferred to Florida State University where he graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He followed his dad in the real estate appraisal business and became a member of the American Society of Appraisers. He eventually established a firm, Gallion-Wilson, with Ed Wilson. Bob served as vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce of Fort Lauderdale and president of the YMCA of Fort Lauderdale. Additionally, he served in many positions including deacon at First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale where he worshiped regularly.
In June of 1965, Bob met Susan Howell at the home of John and Lorraine Morris. They married the following summer, then a year later they spent a year in the Philippines as lay missionaries. They had a wonderful marriage for over 54 years! In addition to being survived by Susan, Bob is survived by his children: Robert Gallion in Houston, TX, Morris (Julie) Gallion in Woodstock, GA, and Edith (Steve) Harrison in Coconut Creek, FL; his grandchildren: Maggie, Mitchell, and Elizabeth Gallion and Chase and Ally Harrison; his sisters: Suzanne (Larry) Wright in Columbia, SC, Charlyne Cook in Newberry, FL, and Shari Jones (Charles) in Hickory, NC; his brother, Jim (Babs) Gallion in Apex, NC; many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Bob Gallion was a wonderful man, a delightful husband, a very good dad and “Grand-Bob”, and a super friend. Everyone who knew him thought that they were “his favorite”. He shared his blessings with everyone and he was anxious for them to know how God had blessed him for so many years. He was a devoted follower of Christ and he enjoyed reading His Word and praying for his family and friends daily. In addition to his appraisal business, church and community involvement, Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing and other outdoor experiences. He especially enjoyed family trips to the FL Keys and to NC.
Bob will be missed by his family and friends. He would want you to know that he is in Heaven…not because of his goodness, but through the love of God in Christ Jesus. And he wants to see you in Heaven, too!
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Cancer Support Ministry of FBFTL, 4KIDS of South Florida, or Sheridan House Family Ministries.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sat. Dec. 5th at 10:00 AM in the Event Center at First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale, 301 East Broward Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale FL 33301. The service will be live-streamed through Zoom.
