Roger Allen Ball,76, beloved husband of Donna M. Ball, passed away on their Silver Anniversary February 14, 2014 after a long illness. He is also survived by his children Diane Shopf and her husband Ward, Amy Peebles, and Michael D. Ball, as well as Rusty Smith and Kelly Cook. He leaves a loving legacy to his ten grandchildren, Melissa Smith, Lauren and Noah Moerkerken, Danny and Kevin Shopf, Justin Jones USN, Megan Jones, Stephanie, Jennifer and Colton Smith, and Tyler Cook USN, as well as his three great grandchildren Brayden, Andrew, and Zuri...and his best friend Wilma, the cat.
Roger, a native Floridian born 1937 in Hollywood, attended South Broward High School and joined the Air Force upon graduation in 1955. After a long career at J.M. Pontiac, he worked as an engineer for the city of North Miami Beach, retiring in 2007, during that time serving as Vice President of the AFSCME Union.
His parents Minnie Parker Ball and Frank M. Ball, who pre-deceased him, along with his sister Gladys, helped settle Hollywood in the early 1920's and were considered early pioneers. Roger's love for his home state did not stop him from traveling to exotic locations such as Macchu Picchu, Peru, Mexico, and most of Italy and Sicily, a trip he shared with his wife Donna. His enthusiasm for the Florida Marlins, the Miami Heat, and the Dolphins was a reflection of his roots. Roger's faith life was also rooted here. Family, neighbors, friends knew Roger could be counted on, whether cutting their grass when needed or for post-hurricane cleanup. He considered all this labor in praise of his Heavenly Father, who has now welcomed him home.
