

Manita, Rose DeFilippo, 93, of Hallandale Beach, FL, died on January 10, 2010. She was born on May 2, 1916 in New Haven, CT, the daughter of the late Antonio and Maria Ruggiero DeFelippo. She was predeceased by her husband, James Manita. Rose is survived by her sister, Edith Lyons of West Haven, CT. Rose grew up in East Haven, CT. and was employed as a supervisor at Winchester Repeating Arms during World War II. She owned and operated her own variety store during the 1950's in New Haven, CT, and moved to Florida in 1962 where she cared for her husband until his death in 1983. Rose was a volunteer at the Hepburn Center in Hallandale and a devout parishioner at St Charles Borromeo. She loved gardening and caring for her visiting cats. She was a special person who accepted what life offered and always made the best of it. She enjoyed volunteering to help the "old folks" and was a sincere and caring friend to many, especially her dear friend, Irma. Rose was also predeceased by her brothers, Emilio, Ernest and Albert DeFilippo and her sisters, Grace Treat and Elena Lyons. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews especially her devoted niece, Eileen, who provided her with love and care for many years. There will be a visitation Friday, January 15, 2010 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the funeral home, followed by a graveside service at 12:15 p.m. at Hollywood Memorial Gardens North.
