Ruby Mae Wallace was born in Hanover, Jamaica, on October 31, 1932, to Wycliffe Logans Wallace and Daisy Granson. Ruby attended Ashton High School in Hanover, Jamaica and Durham Secretarial College in Kingston. After graduating from Durham, Ruby worked at the local courthouse. She then went on to work for Jamaica’s Ministry of Labor, Child Care and Protection, and the Ministry of Mining and Natural Resources.
She attended church at East Queen Street Baptist Church in Kingston, Jamaica. On her way to church one morning, Ruby Mae met Lloyd Eric Rickson Sinclair at a bus stop. Lloyd was on his way to Coke Memorial Methodist Church in Kingston. It was at this bus stop that Ruby found her husband of the next 60 years. Lloyd and Ruby married on June 27, 1964, and are the parents to three children: Neil Oliver, born on September 9, 1965; Janet Elizabeth, born on June 20, 1969; and Gavin Lloyd, born on June 30, 1972.
Both Lloyd and Ruby eventually retired from their jobs in Jamaica and moved to Miami, Florida in 1979. When she came to Miami, Ruby began working for John Alden Life Insurance. She later found her way back to civil service working for the Dade County School Board, at its headquarters in downtown Miami. Ruby was a devoted wife and mother. Ruby was a longtime member of Norland United Methodist Church, in Miami Gardens Florida. She enjoyed caring for her family and baking. For decades every year, she would commence the work of preparing her famous Jamaican Christmas cake. She began marinating the currants for her cake every December 26, in preparation for next year’s cakes.
Ruby filled her home with love, joy, and peace. She left a lasting impression on anyone she met. Ruby is survived by her children, Neil, Janet, and Gavin, her daughter-in-law Delores, her grandchildren Kourtney, Jakari, and Nitara, her great-grand-daughter Naleya, her brothers George, Johnny, and Herby, and her sister Maude. Ruby was a bright light for her family. She fostered togetherness, support, and love for God. Her presence on this earth has enriched the lives of many people and created a lifetime of wonderful memories for her family and friends. Ruby lived life by a very simple principle: “My Shepard is always with me.”
