Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother Salma went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday November 1, 2016. She was proceeded in death by her parents Assad Awaied and Anheela Odeh, and her husband Anis Ladkani.
Salma is survived by Bill Ladkani, his wife Cindy, Ray Ladkani, his wife Debbie, John Ladkani, Grace Cohn, and her husband Dave. Along with her ten Grandchildren: Renee, Ernest, David, Jennifer, Teena, Lisa, Kristie, Michael, Anissa, Robbie, their spouses, and twenty beautiful Great-Grandchildren.
Salma and her husband Anis brought their four children from Haifa, Palestine to America in 1956. The journey over was quite an ordeal of sorts, and she loved sharing that story with her grandchildren, and really anyone else who would listen for that matter. She was a proud American, but always cherished her Palestinian roots. She was known for her amazing traditional Lebanese cooking. Her meals were made from love and dedication, some meals taking hours to prepare, such as hand rolling tons of grape leaves into the perfect delicious bite. She had a reputation, and that reputation was that if she was cooking it, you wanted to eat it.
Salma had another reputation as well, being a Christian. Salma loved the Lord, and there was never any doubt about that. She also made sure to tell you all about Jesus and the wonderful things he has done and how he loves you. She was an active member of her church and attended regularly until her health limited her. You would often hear her ask her grandchildren and great grandchildren "are you going to Sunday school?" and telling them "Jesus loves you, he is always there" and "go to church!". We take comfort in knowing she is up there celebrating with Jesus as we speak.
Salma has a large legacy of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved seeing them grow up, get married, and have children of their own. She loved them unconditionally, and was very proud of her family tree. She also enjoyed socializing with her friends, whether in person, on the phone, or at church, she loved just chatting and sharing stories with them. She was also a skilled knitter and crocheter and learned these skills at an early age. She made beautiful blankets, hats, booties, purses, etc., mostly as gifts for her grandchildren. Many of her family still have these handmade gifts to treasure and pass onto their children.
Salma had a life full of faith, family, friends, and love. We will all miss her terribly, but know she has been reunited with her husband Anis and is at peace in heaven.
