Salvatore was born in Palermo, Sicily on September 26, 1931. He never completed elementary school. When asked if he was in the war, he would say Yes. He wasn't a soldier, he lived through it as he and his family would escape the bombings. In 1958, at the age of 27 he immigrated to the United States and his ship ported in New York City. He was reacquainted with a young woman he met in Italy and the Bargione foundation was set in motion.
Salvatore was married to Antonina on February 13th, 1960; they were married 56 years.
Salvatore was incredibly artistic and worked at a factory where he would design embroidery and the seamstresses would sew them into various items. He also worked making men's jackets and a custodian in a school where his brother taught. At the age of 45 due to health reasons, he had to stop working. In 1981 he moved his family to Florida where he took advantage of the weather and took great pride in his landscaping and green thumb. Here he watched his family expand as he gained two daughters-in law, a son-in-law and 3 wonderful grandsons. As he got older, he was no longer as mobile and started painting. He also learned how to make beautiful flowers from stock paper. He had an eye for beauty.
Salvatore is survived by his children, Dominick Bargione (Cristina), Jack Bargione (Dawn) and Maria Arndt (Edward) and his 3 grandsons, Nicholas and Michael Bargione, and Christopher Arndt. As well as his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews
Salvatore is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Antonina, his parents Domenico and Antonia Bargione, as well as his siblings, Nicolo, Frank and Rose.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Susan G. Komen, a foundation that is dear to us. The entire Bargione family wishes to thank Trustbridge Hospice at John Knox Village, Dr. Andrew Martin, the staff at Northwest Hospital and all of our friends and family that has supported us through all this.
