Sandra Mae S. Secord, 81 years young, passed away late December 2021 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Sandra was born July 1940 in Pennsylvania to Emily and Clyde. Sandy met and married “McGee” in June 1960. They moved and settled on Long Island’s south shore and raised two wonderful sons. In the 1980’s, after the boys were grown, Sandy and McGee, made south Florida their home. They enjoyed traveling and boating through 56 years of marriage.
Sandy earned her Associate degree in Pennsylvania before she married but achieved her goal of earning her Master degree in her 60’s, graduating with a wonderful “group of young whippersnappers.” Sandra worked supporting education most of her life, from grade school attendance clerk in Long Island to Director in South Florida. For over thirty years her office at Saint Thomas University was the place for students and coworkers to stop for a smile and a piece of candy. She said the students kept her feeling young. Continuing her quest for knowledge in retirement she enrolled in the Lifelong Learning Institute at Nova Southeastern University. She enjoyed the lectures, presentations and her lunch bunch friends. Sandy and McGee were longtime active members of the Power Squadron both in Long Island and Biscayne Bay. Sandy was a member and a docent volunteer for the Hollywood Historical Society. She volunteered many hours organizing baby clothes and crocheting baby blankets and booties for the layettes at Respect Life in Fort Lauderdale.
Sandra has passed the torch on this journey through life to her sons Eugene Jr. (Yolima) and James (Sherrie), to her sister Beverly and younger brother Ron (Carol), to her sister in law Betty (Ron), to her grandchildren Jesse, Christian, Melanie, Kyle, Joshua, and Brianna, to her nieces, nephews, and friends.
Celebration of Sandra’s life will be carried on with every murder mystery read, every Werther’s candy tasted, every boat ride cruised and the warmth of being wrapped in a crochet blanket…..Sandy will be laid to rest with McGee in the gentle waves of the warm blue sea.
In the words of Sandra…. “flowers are not good for my breathing”… A beautiful tribute to her memory would be a donation to one of her favorite charities; The Wounded Warrior Project or The Humane Society.
Sandra said “hankies are just for show and blow” ----So we raise a glass of wine in toast to You—We Love You Sandy Shoes_____________.
