Sarah was born November 5th, 1926, in Holguin, Oriente Province, Cuba to Clyde Alexander
Jewett and Antonia Maria Diaz Jewett. She married John R King, Sr. on August 7, 1948, in
Lewiston, Oriente Province, Cuba.
She grew up on the family sugar cane farm and cattle ranch in Lewiston. Shortly after the
beginning of World War II she, her sister Chili and four of her Fuller Family cousins (Grace,
Jean, Frances and Irene) moved to Fall River Massachusetts, to attend Sacred Heart boarding
school. She later graduated from Miami Senior High School and attended the University of
Miami.
Seventy years ago, Sarah accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior under the
ministry of New Testament Baptist Church (Hialeah) and its senior pastor, Dr. Al Janney.
Reading her Bible and praying to her Lord and Savior were a significant part of her daily life.
She was a dedicated Sunday School teacher of young children while a member at New
Testament Baptist Church, 1st Baptist Church of West Hollywood and Sheridan Hills Baptist
Church. Later in life she was a member of Pines Baptist Church.
For several years, she worked in a clerical position for Lawrence Systems, Inc., a California
based inventory bonding and controls company.
Earlier in her life, Sarah was an active board member of The Jewett Family of America, Inc., an
organization dedicated to preserving the family history of descendants of Joseph and
Maximilion Jewett who emigrated to America in 1639. She also was an active member of the
Daughters of the American Revolution.
Sarah is preceded in death by her husband, John R King, Sr, her son, James Arthur King, her
brothers Sandy, Frankie, George, Alvin, Jimmy, Andrew, Clycito, Douglas, Clyde Morgan
sister, Toña Jewett Trueba and her loving companion dog, Frankie.
Sarah is survived by her son John R King, Jr (wife Charlene) and daughter Antonia “Toni”
Frances King Hoffman (husband Gary), grandchildren Timothy Arthur King (wife Nikki),
Stephen Scott King (wife Katy), John Marsh King (wife Jayne), Sarah Audrey King Hyun
(husband David), great grandchildren, Michael King, Taylor King, Wyatt King, Kameryn King,
Stephen C King, Savannah King, Penelope Hyun, Melody Hyun, Hunter King Hyun, and Heidi
King. She is also survived by her brothers Richard and Robert and sisters Chili Jewett
McGehee, Bonnie Jewett Camacho and Lucy Jewett Marquez.
Visitation will be Friday, October 27th from 5 pm to 9 pm at Fred Hunter’s Funeral Home, 6301
Taft Street, Hollywood, Florida. Funeral services will be held at Fred Hunter’s Funeral Home
at 10 am Saturday, October 28th. with Pastor Luis Acosta of Pines Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will follow at Fred Hunter's Hollywood Memorial Gardens.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Farida Zinatul Budhai who was Sarah’s
caretaker for the last five years.
The family also welcomes donations to The Gideons International, American Bible Society or
the Parkinson’s Foundation in lieu of flowers.
