Shawn Christopher Conrey

The funeral service will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, September 9, 2021 at St. David’s Catholic Church located at 3900 South University Drive, Davie, Florida 33328.  Father Joseph of St. David’s Catholic Church will be officiating.  Visitation will be held at 4pm until 8pm the evening before, Wednesday, September 8th, 2021 at Fred Hunter Funeral Home located at 2401 S. University Drive, Davie, FL 33324.  This will be a closed casket wake.  Burial will follow the funeral on Thursday, 9/09/2021 at 11:30am at Hollywood Memorial Gardens Cemetery (6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, FL 33024). Funeral arrangements are being handled by Fred Hunter.  After the burial services, family and friends are invited to celebrate Shawn’s life at the Robbins Preserve Park Lodge located at 4005 S. Hiatus Rd., Davie, FL 33330 from 12:30 to 5:30pm. 

Shawn was born in Camden, New Jersey on March 26, 1969. His family moved to Florida in the early 1970’s and have been residents of Davie, Florida for over 40 years.  He graduated in 1987 from Western High School in Davie, Florida and continued his studies where he earned multiple post graduate certifications/degrees in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Physical Therapy. 

Shawn worked as a licensed/certified prosthetist, orthotist, pedorthotist, and physical therapist assistant for Around and About, Inc., (an Orthotic, Prosthetic and Rehabilitation Center) that he co-owned and founded with his older brother, Richard Conrey for over 26 years.  Shawn worked diligently each day designing, fabricating and fitting medical supportive devices on patients that directly had a positive impact on improving and restoring their overall function. All his family members also worked alongside him including his mother, father, sister, his brother/partner and his long term girlfriend.  It is a truly unique family operation that Shawn loved and had a natural gift of helping others. Richard, his older brother, was inseparable and built their careers and life around their business and family.  If there was spare time, they enjoyed going to musical concerts, flying their planes, and enjoyed luxury cars. Shawn also loved golfing, diving, boating, going to the movies and would be the first to pick up the microphone and sing a few rock lyrics alongside the lead vocalist of a rock band. Shawn had so much charisma and natural charm that made everyone around him smile.  Shawn made all of us better when he was present and always wanted to “give” and wanted all of us to be genuinely happy.  He spent a lot of time rescuing cats with his girlfriend and loved animals.  He was actively involved in many animal rescue centers, providing assistance for natural disasters and was the most selfless, generous and kindest person there ever was. He was an extraordinary human being that will be profoundly missed by all.

Shawn leaves behind his life partner, Sandi Picado, for near 26 years and her daughter, Katyna Picado.  Shawn is survived by his parents Richard Conrey, Sr. and Sharon A. Conrey, his brother Richard Conrey, Jr. and his girlfriend Lisa Voss, his sister Sharon Niles and her husband Mark Niles, along with his nephews and niece including Dylan Niles, Kai Niles, Robert Conrey and Christie Conrey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Around and About, Inc. located at 450 N. State Road 7, Plantation, Florida 33317.  The Conrey family wishes to thank all of you during this difficult and painful unexpected nightmare.  Shawn was the “golden child” and will live on in all the hearts he profoundly touched. He made each of our days better when he was in it…we hope we can follow his footsteps. We love you Shawn and hope you save us a spot in Heaven.
