Born on May 13, 1938, in Avocat, Trinidad. Taramatie was the daughter of the late Sahadeo (Father) and Pulmati (Mother) Persad Sharma.
She shared a loving relationship with her late husband, Bidram Maharaj, with whom she was married for 37 years before his passing in 1996.
Tara was both a dedicated homemaker and a driven entrepreneur. In her youth, she assisted her parents in operating their parlor. Later in life, she established and successfully managed her own roti shop in Trinidad.
Following her husband's passing, she renovated her property to create rental spaces. Her remarkable drive for independence served as an inspiration to her family, and she encouraged everyone around her to be self-reliant.
Known for her immense kindness and caring nature, Tara loved tending to her garden, cooking for others, and working as an exceptional seamstress. She always ensured that no one went hungry, frequently sharing her potted plants and fresh garden produce with visitors. Her home was always open to family members and friends, providing a comforting "home away from home" for all who stayed.
She adored her children, Marisha, Nirvanand, Atmaram, and Radhay Sham. She cherished her grandchildren, Sydney, Christopher, Mesha, Nyala, Vishal, and Nirvana. She shared a beloved relationship with her siblings Bhanmatie and Narine, and was preceded in death by her siblings Jankie, Bhago, Deokie, Jwala, and Ambika.
Memorial contributions in memory of Tara may be made to the Lynn Cancer Institute to support ongoing cancer research and help advance treatments for those affected by the disease.
A Hindu Funeral Rite will be held at Fred Hunter's Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, FL 33024, US, on April 27, 2026, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
