Terrell Eugene McCombs

July 29, 1960 – May 10, 2025

Terrell Eugene McCombs, 64, of Dania Beach, Florida, passed away on May 10, 2025, in the

city he called home for his entire life. Born on July 29, 1960, in Hollywood, FL, Terrell was the

beloved son of H.E. “Gene” McCombs and Janie Ellis McCombs.

A lifelong resident of Dania Beach, Terrell lived in the same family home built in 1938—a true

reflection of his deep roots and enduring love for his community. For over two decades, he

worked with Griffin Brothers landscaping company, where his thoughtful designs helped beautify

neighborhoods across Dania Beach and greater Broward County. He later continued his service

to the public as a Code Enforcement Officer-Landscape Inspector for the City of Sunrise.

Terrell was a passionate advocate for his hometown’s history and natural beauty. He served as

a dedicated member and volunteer of the Dania Beach Historical Society since 1977 and

contributed more than 20 years to the Dania Beach Improvement Committee. He was also a

proud member of the Landscape Inspector Association of Florida (Broward County) and the

International Society of Arboriculture, which he joined in 2005. In 2022, Terrell was recognized

as a Broward County Pioneer for his impact on the community.

Terrell’s love of the outdoors and gardening was central to who he was. His favorite tree was the

live oak, and his passion for native landscaping earned him and his wife, Janet McCombs, the

prestigious Broward County NatureScape Emerald Award for their home garden—a vibrant

reflection of his life’s work and love for the natural world.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Janet McCombs, Aunt Barbara McCombs Hogan, Cousins

Barbara Lynne Hogan, Byron McCombs, Kim Griffin, Howard McCombs, and Second Cousin

Gerald Neville. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who were touched by his

kindness, dedication, and green thumb.
