Thomas Wilson Tufts

Born in Canton, Ohio, on January 2nd, 1933, he attended Hubbard High School and he completed undergraduate and medical school at The Ohio State University, including three years of engineering. Upon graduation from medical school in 1959, Dr. Tufts completed an internship at Good Samaritan Hospital in Palm Beach where he met his lifelong friend Dr. Roland Molinet. Dr. Tufts completed his residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital, and he and his first wife had three children Susan, Stephen, and Scott.

In 1963 he became a staff radiologist at Broward General Medical Center and then founded Radiology Associates in 1969. He married his second wife, Judy Crandall, in 1973 with whom he had one son Peter. Specializing in the diagnosis of breast diseases, he opened the Tufts Mammography Center in 1987. He was mentored by world-renowned Swedish Mammographer Dr. Lszl Tabr. In the last 24 years, Dr. Tufts was dedicated to the early detection and prevention of breast disease. During these years he was passionate about providing comfort and reassurance to his patients. Many patients said they would only go to Dr. Tufts for their mammograms.

In addition to his profession Dr. Tufts loved his family, friends, and boating. He spent many wonderful weeks in the islands on the Tuftship. He was very involved in the community as a founder and past president of the Caducean Society, past commodore of the Lauderdale Yacht Club, member of the Knights of the Round Table, Restless Weasels, and supporter of organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Hospice, Kids in Distress, Junior Welfare Society, and Pinion.

Dr. Tufts is survived by his wife of 37 years, Judy Tufts; four children Susan, Stephen, Scott, and Peter; seven grandchildren Vincent, Kerry, Katy, K.C., Keleigh, Aspen, and Thomas; his brother Dr. Kenneth C. Tufts and his family; and his in-laws Gordon and Beatrice Crandall, Sharon and Fred Lamb and family, Paul R. Crandall, and his many devoted friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations may be made to Hospice of Southeast Florida Inc.
