Tom was born March 25, 1926 in North Amherst, Massachusetts. He was one of nine children born to the late William and Catherine (Chanovitz) Ursia.
He spent his youth in North Amherst and was educated in town schools. He joined the U.S. Navy, Seabees Construction Division, at the age of 16 and fought in the South Pacific. He proudly served his Country like so many members of the Ursia and Tymkowiche families.
In 1946, Tom married Adeline Josephine Malek. The couple spent much of their married life in the Hadley area, beginning with a farm in Hadley where they grew asparagus. For years, he worked in construction for Lane Construction Company. In 1978, the couple moved to Hollywood, Florida where Tom worked faithfully for over a decade for the City of Hollywood Water District and as a "jack-of-all trades" to "The Villas" where he cherished many friends.
Tom always enjoyed fishing as his hobby. He always sought the "big one" and like his deceased sister, Maime, loved catching striped bass in Maine.
Tom was predeceased by his wife Addie in 2006, his son Ron in 1998, and all his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his son James and Grandson Christopher from Hollywood, Florida, and his son Thomas, Jr. and his wife Dianne of Sanford, Maine. He also leaves behind his fishing buddy and nephew George ("Chippie") and his wife Kathleen Ursia of Lakewood, FL., who he held a special place in his heart for their kindness to him.
Memorial remembrances may be made to the Seabee Museum in Davisville, Rhode Island.
At his request, a private burial service will take place on Saturday by Hunter's Funeral Home.
