Virginia P. Albrecht, known to family and friends as Ginnie, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2017 surrounded by family. She was 86 years old. Ginnie was predeceased by her husband John Albrecht, Jr., the love of her life and best friend for 61 years.
Ginnie and John met at a beach party on Long Beach Island, NJ in 1945 when they were 14 and 17, respectively. They married in 1952. They lived in Bala Cynwyd and Gladwyne, PA and maintained a summer home on Long Beach Island. Ginnie was graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in secondary education in 1952. She was an active member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Gladwyne where she taught Sunday school for many years and developed the church library. Ginnie was one of the first women elected to that church's Vestry, where she served from 1968 - 1972. As an empty-nester, Ginnie worked for her husband's business, Albrecht's Flowers & Greenhouses in Narberth, PA, until John sold the business in 1986 to retire to Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
Ginnie and John were active in the Horticulture Society of South Florida and worked on the development of the Palm Beach Tropical Flower Flower show for 12 years. A lover of books and education, Ginnie helped create the Sharpless Horticulture Library for the Society. Ginnie and John shared virtually everything in life, including a passion for the sea. They enjoyed sailing, motor boating and fishing together. Both attained Certified Seamanship in the Main Line Power Squadron and were members of the Palm Beach Sail & Power Squadron. Their son John Curtis Albrecht predeceased them in 2005. In later years, Ginnie enjoyed activities at her La Pasada community, including performing in variety shows.
Ginnie is survived by two loving daughters, Catherine Albrecht Klinger (and her husband Ronald Klinger) of West Palm Beach, FL and Laurie Anne Albrecht of Jupiter, FL. They will miss her forever.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held at Palm Beach County Extension, Exhibit Hall A, on August 14, at 2:00 p.m. Call 561-233-1748 for details. Ashes will be spread at sea.
