He was the son of Edith Jacques Mainella and Dr. Frank Saverio Mainella. He was educated in Brooklyn, New York, and attended Rice High School in Manhattan and CW Post College graduating in 1964. He received his Juris Doctor from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1972.
He was admitted to both the Louisiana Bar, and the New York State Bar and was practicing criminal and defense attorney in New York State for several years with Terry Gaffney, Esq. and Raymond Vuolo, Esq. He was a member of the Suffolk and Nassau Counties Law Associations and The New York State Bar Association
He was also a licensed pilot, hunter, golfer, and an accomplished pianist. Warren was an avid fisherman and great water-skier; he loved to drop that second ski, having spent most of his summers in Bayville, Long Island on the water. He would often be out on their boat "The Rebel" chumming for blue fish at Buoy 19 and at Mattituck point looking for striped bass (he also had a great Striped Bass recipe he loved to prepare) with his Uncle Sam and his father, and cousins. Warren was also an accomplished horseman and had his beloved horses, Command, Chico, and Bugger that were like children to him. He was also a member of The Knights of Malta.
His proudest accomplishment was that fact that he was a decorated Captain in the United States Marine Corp, serving his country in Viet Nam. It was quite fitting that as an American hero, he passed away on Memorial Day.

He is survived by his brother and best friend, Frank S. Mainella, Jr., his niece and nephew, Joseph A.
