A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Fred Hunter Funeral Home-South, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, FL, with the Reverend Pamela Barras, Vitas Chaplain, officiating and a graveside service TBD at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3901 Forest Lawn Drive in Greensboro, NC. Interment will be beside his wife, Taki.
Earl was born on March 27, 1920, in Greensboro, NC to the late Charles and Vila Barbour and retired in 1982 from Pan American Airlines where he was a mechanic/inspector for 36 years. He served in the US Navy in WWII from 1943-1945 as a 1st Class Machinist. He was a 32nd Mason and a member of the South Miami Lodge #308. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Kikue "Taki" Kohira Barbour; sisters Inez Barbour Cooper and Lucille Barbour McMillan, and brother Charles Thomas Barbour, Jr.
Earl was a loving and devoted husband. He was the kindest of men and always willing to help others, never thinking of himself. Many in Pembroke Pines, Florida, referred to him as "such a kind man."
He is survived by his nieces and nephew Janet MacGregor of Peachtree City, Georgia; the Reverend E. Murray McMillan, Jr., of Cochocton, Ohio (wife Donna Beam McMillan); Jeanie McMillan of Greensboro, North Carolina; Susan McNair of Browns Summit, North Carolina (husband William E. "Bill" McNair, Jr.); Lynda Murchison of Greensboro, North Carolina; and Joan Pratt of Burnsville, Minnesota (husband David C. Pratt); numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews as well as several very close and loyal friends. He was loved by all and will be sorely missed.
We would like to extend our appreciation to Trust USA Home Healthcare, Vitas Innovative Hospice Care Team #158 and the weekend private duty aids who provided such good care for Earl. Our warm and sincere thanks to his "special" aid, Debra Byfield-Russell, for her caring nature and invaluable and devoted attention to his care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Baptist Children's Home of North Carolina, P.O. Box 338, Thomasville, North Carolina 27361-9911 or Wounded/Disabled Veterans charity of your choice.
