

Wesley Gordon Harris was born January 11, 1932, to Ellen and Osmond Harris, in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. He was the first child of nine children born. He attended Kingston Technical College University of the West Indies and The University of Glasgow in Scotland. Upon returning to Jamaica, he taught at Glenmuir High School in Maypen and Holmwood Technical College in Christiana. It was during that time; his first son Everton Harris was born (mother Merdie Hunter).
On January 6, 1960, he would marry his wife Mildred, and from that union, six sons were born. O’Neil, Norman (Deceased), Desmond (Deceased), Wesley Jr., Donovan, and Garfield. In 1970, Wesley migrated to the United States, the younger children followed in 1971, where they all resided in Brooklyn, New York. He worked for Bell Atlantic Telephone Company (now Verizon) for 24 years until his retirement in 1994. Wesley gave his life to Christ at an early age. He attended First United Methodist in Englewood, NJ, where he was very active and served on various committees. Also, in 1994, he and his wife Mildred relocated to Miami, Florida. He became a member along with his brother, Ludlow Lawrence Harris of Norland United Methodist Church. For more than 20 years, Wesley was a dedicated member of Norland United Methodist Church. He was also involved in many activities such as Lay Speaker, delivered meals as part of Caring Hands for the sick and shut-in, A member of the Men’s Group, visited many fellow members and families in hospitals and at their homes. He was a man that would complete any task needed for his Church.
Wesley was an avid Sports Fan and appreciated planting West Indian fruit trees of all kinds in his backyard. Well done, good and faithful servant. His favorite sentence was, “God has been good to me” and “May the Lord be with you.”
On June 30, 2021, Wesley was called home to be with the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mildred Harris, his sons Norman Harris and Desmond Harris, Siblings (Maurice, Ludlow, Neville, and Clive Harris and Yvonne Lawson). Wesley is survived by his children Everton, O’Neil, Wesley Jr., Donovan, (Wife Angela), and Garfield. His three remaining siblings, Trevor and John Harris (brothers), Monica Singleton (sister). His Grandchildren- Trevor, Tamieka, Tamara, Akilah, Granada, Garcia, Shaqusia, Ideshaun, and Kiara. Great Grandchildren, Sister-in-law, Brothers-in-law, a host of nephews and nieces, cousins, church family, and good friends.
