Yvonne Jean Wilson-Traylor was born 20 June 1941 in Cane Grove, Guyana to the late Ethleen Mangal and David Datterdeen. She attended school in Georgetown, Guyana and there she met her late husband Wilton Lloyd. From that union of 16 years, came two daughters, Carol and Marcelle. While in Guyana, Yvonne ran a well-known business school, Guyana Commercial Academy, that taught typing and shorthand to prepare women for the workplace.
On 20 March 1980 Yvonne became a widow and moved with her daughters to Brooklyn, NY. She built a new life, in a new country from almost nothing. She worked two jobs to provide for them and send her daughters to college. On 20 June 1985 she married the late Matthew Traylor III. They moved to Miramar, FL May 1996 and shared 23 years of wedded bliss. Yvonne worked at Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida for 15 years and worked up until 5 August. That was truly her home away from home and she never missed an opportunity to be amongst her Legal Aid Family.
Yvonne was a God fearing woman who held on to the belief that "God didn't make any mistakes." She was of strong faith and helped everyone that crossed her path. She was compassionate, worked hard, spent time in her garden of orchids, and fruit trees and her free time was spent loving her grandchildren and doing things with them. She touched so many lives we cannot count them all. There are those who will miss her curry and roti, her mangoes and her warm smile and laughter. We are convinced she is wearing a gown of white and gold and smiling down on us.
Yvonne leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters Carol Anne Marie (Patrick) James (grandchildren Aaron and Arielle) of Miramar FL and Marcelle Imelda (Michael) Davis (grandchild Melanie) of Richmond, VA, brothers Joseph and Jerome Datterdeen, and brother-in law-Bernard Traylor. Stepchildren: Carlton Victor, Emeline, Kathleen, Patricia, Malcolm Keith, George William, Dorothy, Lloyd, Tracy, Matthew IV and Terrence, a whole host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and a large circle of friends.
