James was born in Winnsboro, LA on December 2, 1947, to Davis and Marie (Day) Cassels who preceded him in death. He was united in marriage to Kathy Kelsay on December 19, 1970, in New Bloomfield, MO. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
He worked at Westinghouse/ABB as a welder for 40 years before retiring in 2013. James was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He also loved to watch the St. Louis Cardinals and Westerns on TV, but most of all, he loved being with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Kathy; daughter, Beth Wittenberger (Dale) of Centertown, MO; son, Daniel Cassels (Christle) of Jefferson City, MO; five grandchildren, Ethan Wittenberger, Paige Cassels, Lindsey Shecut (Andre), Faith Cassels, and Trevor Cassels (Angel); two brothers, Gene Cassels of Barnett, MO and Jerry Cassels of Pineville, LA; one sister, Vickie Houghton (Jerry) of Sicily Island, LA. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Sue Miller and Patricia Cassels and one brother, Donnie Cassels.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 25, 2023, from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm at Debo Funeral Home in Holts Summit, MO. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Ed Luebbering officiating.
