Lewis was born on January 29, 1931 in Lecoma, MO the son of Thomas and Cora (Schmedeke) Curtis who preceded him in death. On June 30, 1951, he was united in marriage to Dorlas (Thomas) Curtis, who preceded him in death in 2023. Lewis was an ordained minister for 70 years; he retired from Dry Fork Baptist Church in April. He loved singing in the church choir, gardening, playing Mexican train and especially checkers with his friends. Lewis was a huge fan of the Gaither brothers and watching westerns. He especially loved being able to spend time with his grandkids on the farm.
Education was very important to Lewis and Dorlas. After receiving only an 8th grade education as a youngster, in 1953 he began attending Hannibal LaGrange College and he also became pastor. Lewis went on to receive a BS and Master’s in Education from Lincoln University and a Doctorate of Biblical Studies from Andersonville Baptist Seminary. Through his career, he taught at many schools, Wentzville, Bland and New Bloomfield, MO.
Lewis Thomas Curtis has been referred to as preacher, pastor, Brother Curtis, reverend, teacher, friend and Doctor Curtis by many. He is also son, brother, husband and father. In whatever ways he is known, he is loved and appreciated.

Survivors include: two daughters, Jill Turner (Roger) of Linn, MO and Pam Isenberg (Craig) of Ashland, MO; two grandchildren, Macey and Nate and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his five brothers.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at Dry Fork Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm with Pastor Dusty Klein officiating. Burial will be in Dry Fork Cemetery in New Bloomfield, MO.
