Donald J. Gibbs

Born April 13, 1938 in Cortland, Donald was the son of the late Donald R. Gibbs, MD and Sarah J. Crawford Gibbs.

He was born and raised on The Gibbs’ farm on Route 13, Cortland, NY. He resided for many years at the Highland House in Cortland. Donnie worked and participated in the day program at the JM Murray Center for many years, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

His favorite hobbies included singing, baseball, and horses. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends in the community.

He appreciated and enjoyed his church family as well, and was a baptized member of the Cortland Seventh Day Adventist Church, where he faithfully attended.

Surviving are nine brothers and sisters, Laura Lee (Jack) Ferneyhough; Margaret J. (Woodrow) Whidden; Thomas C. (Joeann) Gibbs; Jonathan Gibbs; George F. Gibbs; Ann D. (Richard) Alway; Frances Mae (David) Faehner and Mary Gibbs. Also a brother, Harold (Donna) Gibbs and their children, Joseph, Jillian, Abigail and Hannah of Cortland, who took care of Donnie’s needs for many years; a special brother, Duane (Charlotte) Holmes; 24 adoring nieces and nephews and 24 great nieces and nephews who’s arrival and antics delighted Donnie.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 24, 2012 at the Cortland Seventh Day Adventist Church, 106 N. Main St., Cortland, with Pastor Dustin Hall officiating.

Donald’s friends at the Cortland DSO have invited everyone to the Highland House, 4102 Highland Rd., Cortland for a reception and fellowship following the services at the church.
