He was born February 21, 1929 in Ellenville, NY, the son of Edward P. and Helen G. Lewis Osterhoudt.
Ed was a veteran of World War II and Korea, serving in the United States Marine Corp, where he was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
In 1954 he began his career with the New York State Troopers, retiring as Zone Sergeant and Station Commander in 1977.
From 1980-1988, he was employed by SUNY Cortland as a chef.
EO was a life-member and past ‘Elk of the Year’ of the Homer Lodge #2506 B.P.O.E., member and past president of the University Club of Cortland, a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church, a member of the NY State Police PBA, the NY State Federation of Police, and the Association of Former NY State Troopers Central NY Chapter.
Surviving is his wife, Shirley Chambers Osterhoudt, children, Kathryn Mary (Ken) Plunko of North Huntingdon, PA; Susan Lorraine (Jim) Hennessy of Geneva, NY and Edward (Suzanne) Osterhoudt of Little York; his grandchildren, Jacob and Sara Wilson,
John, Rachael and Allison Osterhoudt and Tyler and Shane Plunko. Also surviving are his sisters, Linda DiBernardo of Hyde Park, NY, Pat Hoar of Las Vegas, NV; Joan Rogers of Dallas, PA and Kim Carey of Ingram, TX.
In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by a brother, Robert J. Osterhoudt.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 2, 2012 in St. Margaret’s Church, 14 Copeland Ave., Homer, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Paul J. Alciati. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 N. Main St., Homer.
