

Eleanor was born April 24, 1920 in Atlantic City, NJ, a daughter of the late Samuel and Eleanor Moffett Lewis.
She had been a resident of the area since 1962, when her late husband, John, took a job with Brewer-Titchener.
She retired in 1985 from the Cortland Central School District, where she worked for more than 25 years in the Food Service Dept. Prior to Cortland, she had also worked for more than 20 years at the Stroudsburg High School, East Stroudsburg, PA in the cafeteria.
She was an active member for 45 years of the Homer Rod & Gun Club, becoming an accomplished skeet and trap shooter. She shot in the Women’s League for many years and enjoyed traveling to the different gun clubs. Eleanor continued shooting past her 90th birthday.
Mrs. Schoonover was a member of the Scott Senior Center, the Scott United Methodist Church and the Homer Chapter 222 Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving are her children, John S. (Shirley) Schoonover, Jr. of East Stroudsburg, PA; Susan N. (Edward) Sepkowski of Rochester, NY and Steven E. (Patti) Schoonover of Homer; seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, a brother, James (Violet) Lewis of Canadensis, PA as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her husband, John S. Schoonover, Sr. predeceased her on May 26, 2006 as did her brother, Samuel Lewis.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2012 in the Scott United Methodist Church, 6816 State Route 41, with Pastor John Aukema officiating. Interment will follow in Scott Union Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 N. Main St., Homer.
