
Born and raised in Malone, NY, Elmer was honorably discharged from the Army; serving with the 86th Troop Carrier Squad during World War II.
He was formerly employed with Wickwire Bros. and retired in 1986 from the Elizabeth Brewster House, Homer, where he worked as the custodian for 15 years.
Elmer loved to tinker and repair lawnmowers, snowblowers, and tractors. He enjoyed coin collecting, yard-work, and took pride in maintaining the home for his wife, Lois and their dog, Jewel.
Sunny’s face would light up while talking about his grandchildren and great grandchildren and his joking personality will be missed by all.
Surviving is his wife of 34 years, Lois J. Shutts; two sons, Robert Shutts and Raymond Shutts; a daughter, Barbara Shutts; step-children, Randy McKay, Brenda Shephard, Kenneth Wetterer and Dale Brewer. Also surviving are his brother, Robert Shutts; a sister, Ethel Bessie, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Elmer and Anna Jock Shutts, Sr., he was predeceased by 22 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services, with Military Honors, will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 N. Main St., Homer.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the services.
