Gerhard Wendel

Born and raised in Germany, Gerhard emigrated in 1960, coming to the United States to fulfill his dream of owning and operating a farm. In 1970 he built his home on the hill and has since had cattle, horses, sheep and chickens. He was employed for many years as machinist mechanic with Cortland Crescent and was a past member of the Cortland Boat Club.

Surviving is his loving wife, Erika Wendel, whom he married in Germany on August 29, 1958; four children, Henry W. Wendel of Homer; Egon P. (Michele) Wendel of McLean; Michael Wendel (Jennifer Currie) of Cortland and Patricia A. (Michael) Currie of Homer; two grandchildren, Jessica and Breanna; two great grandchildren, Jazzmyn and Carmyn; a sister and extended family and friends in Germany.

The family will receive friends at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 N. Main St., Homer, on Sunday from 4-6p.m.

Funeral services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
