June S. Knapp

A lifelong area resident, June was born March 27, 1925 a daughter of the late Charles H. and Gertrude Jennison Sellen.

She graduated Homer High School in 1943 and attended Syracuse University.

On August 9, 1947 she married Adelbert D. Knapp and together they began their life on the farm in Preble, raising their eight children. Mr. Knapp predeceased her 2003.

June was a longtime and active member of the Preble Congregational Church, where for many years she taught Sunday School and was active in the Women’s Group. She was a member of Homer Chapter 222-Order of the Eastern Star and was a member, and former leader, of 4-H.

Surviving are her eight children, Barbara (Richard) Keeney of Cuyler; James Knapp of Tully; Stephen Knapp of Westby, WI; Janie Hughes of Homer; Peter (Patty) Knapp of Preble; Phil (Mary) Knapp of Preble; Paul (Maureen) Knapp of Preble and John Knapp of Preble; 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Rodney (Eivor) Sellen of Homer and her sister-in-law, Ann Burgett of Tully as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held at 11 a.m on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at the Preble Congregational Church, 1953 Preble Rd., Preble, with Pastor Rebecca West officiating.

In keeping with June’s wishes, there will be no calling hours.
