When Mr. Safreed shared his favorite literature with my 12th grade class, we asked for more books. He stayed after hours with us and we all sat together, taking turns reading out loud and casually devouring an entire book in an evening. There was no where else any of us would have preferred to be on those afternoons than filling our curious minds with adventures and poetry with the man who made them amazing. Mr. Safreed poured his endless heart into everything he gave his students. His copies of Wilder, Poe, and Lee continue to live on my bookshelf, and the sense of wonder he created in the classroom continue to live in my mind and my heart.

I will always remember Daryl for his drama and character portrayals. As Commander of AWANA, I wanted the mascot of the Sparks AWANA Club to visit on Awards Night. I knew the perfect person to be Sparky was Daryl. He did a great job and the children really enjoyed a visit by Sparky and to have their picture taken with him. Daryl will be greatly missed at First Baptist Church of Cutler Ridge.

Daryl was one of the bright lights in our world. i am honored to have known him and blessed to have him as a friend who loved to help our family and those around him. He will be missed but we will see him again. In God's good time. I wish blessings to Nancy and the family and continued prayers during this difficult time. Ron and Miriam Torres-Gatherer.

I was honored and blessed to have Mr. Safreed as one of my teachers at FCS, and the impact that he had, not only in my life, but in the lives of so many of my fellow students, cannot be expressed in words nor can it be quantified.  The example he set and the standards he pushed us to meet indeed helped us to achieve professional success, but even more importantly, helped us to solidify our relationships with Christ.  The world has indeed lost a wonderful teacher, a kind man, and a devoted husband and father.  But our loss is Heaven's gain...looking forward to the great reunion and the opportunity to join him in rejoicing around the throne!  To Mrs. Safreed, Josiah, and Benjamin, I am praying that the Lord would envelope you in his comfort and that you would truly feel His love and presence leading and guiding you through this time.

When I stop to consider those that had the greatest influence in my life, I always remember Mr. Safreed. He taught me so much more than English. He gave me confidence, sound advice, and a transcending love for the written word. My heart goes out to all his family and I pray that the Lord comfort them and keep them whole. Heaven has received one of their missing angels.

The world has lost one of its greatest. Mr. Safreed taught me so much about English and life. I am so blessed to have had him as a teacher for three of my high school years. He was one of the best: a godly man who truly cared about others. I am a better person because of what he taught me. He will truly be missed by everyone who knew him.

Mr. Safreed embodied all that it means to be a teacher.  It would be difficult to match, let alone surpass the love and dedication that he had for all his students. No matter how busy he was, he always welcomed his students, both old and current, with open arms and a huge smile on his face.  

We will forever be thankful to Mr. Safreed for the tutoring and guidance he gave to our son in assisting him to get into the university of his choice and the assistance he gave to our daughter even while she was in college.

We know he is now in a better place looking down upon us.  We will keep Nancy, Josiah, and Benji in our prayers.

I met Mr. Safreed and his family at Ambassador Baptist Church when I was a child. When I went into high school, he was my tutor for ACT and SAT. No matter how many times you asked, he always explain with patience. Once I wasn't feeling well, he stopped the tutoring session and we prayed. When I went off to college, he took a lot of interst of where I went to church and always showed he cared about my walk with Christ. When he found out I was going on a mission trip to Haiti, he wanted to hear every little detail about it. I loved that he took so much interest in my family and I. I'm thankful God put Mr. Safreed and his family in my life.

What an awesome, kind, caring, compassionate, servant of Jesus and Sunday Scool Teacher.  He will so greatly be missed.

Daryl will be greatly missed at FCS. But for those who put their trust in Jesus Christ it is not the end and we will see him again some day.

I cannot seem to find the proper words to describe what I wish to say. Mr. Safreed was one of a kind; never before had I known a teacher that cared so deeply for his students, that would go to any lengths to be the best teacher a student could ever have. To be an example of Christ's love and compassion, a safe harbor in a stormy sea. 

Mr. Safreed was unlike anyone. He could recite Shakespeare from memory, was intelligent beyond expression, gave the most eloquent speeches, but yet never held such esteemed qualities over anyone nor did he make one feel any lesser for lack of them. No, instead Mr. Safreed pushed all his students to reach such heights, to seek within themselves the quest for knowledge and the desire to be one's best self that he had already discovered within himself.

Armed with a cheerful grin and a kind "Good morning Miss Alegra," Mr. Safreed greeted me every morning before class and it is only now that I wish I had treasured such moments more dearly. How I wish I had saved all those stories he wrote critiques and praises upon. How I wish high school could have gone for just one more year, one more year I could have known him. 

Even though I cannot return to those times, I will continue to treasure them in my heart and reflect upon the happy years I spent in his classroom. I will miss him very, very much but I am comforted by the knowledge that he is in heaven and living in the splendor of Christ's everlasting grace and that is peace enough for my heart until we meet again.

Mr. Safreed was an incredible and intelligent man. He was more than a teacher but the type of person who would put his students' well being above his own. Though he has passed I am so honored to have had him as my teacher.

Mr Safreed, was such a great follower of Christ and taught me how to be more Christ like through his example. I would like to write this to let him and his family know that this is how he influenced my life and that his goal as a teacher and mentor was complete with nothing to regret. It is now our responsibility to carry on the responsibility to show others the good news of the Word of God just as Safreed did. Sad moment? yes, but one to rejoice as well as he will be with the Lord! Cant wait to see him

Mr. Safreed was a loving, educated, and nice man. He always put his students first and encouraged us to follow our dreams and go far in life. Mr. Safreed you will be missed, but never forgotten. Until we see you again!

Mr. Safreed was the kindest person on this earth. He was caring and would do anything to help everybody including his students. He prepared me for college in a way that no other teacher could have prepared me. If there was anybody who was the picture of Christianity or the picture of godliness, it was definitely Mr. Safreed. Heaven received an angel and i find myself lucky to have known him and to have been taught by him. We will all miss him!

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Safreed's wife and family. May God's comfort and strength bathe them daily. Daryl Safreed was truly a man of God who encouraged many students and teachers over the years to pursue God's personal and powerful presence in their own lives. His dedication and passion for teaching and touching lives has eternally impacted the lives of our daughters Michelle and Stephanie in so many ways. We are so grateful they had the opportunity to know him and love him. And, as their parents, we count ourselves truly blessed with Mr. Safreed's impact on our family. Nancy,  so very sorry for the loss of your dear husband and Josiah and Benji, for the loss of your dad. He was a great example of a man who loved his Lord and lived his faith daily. I used to love to hear him pray in the morning teachers meetings. You could hear the love for his Savior in his voice and now he at the feet of his Savior worshipping Him face to face. Love you all,

I met Mr. Safreed and his family at Ambassador Baptist Church when I was very young. He was always a caring man to his family and others. When I got into high school, he was my tutor for the SAT and ACT. I always loved the way he would explain things in a way I could understand completely. He was so wise and I always looked up to him for that. He believed in me and supported me and the choices I wanted to make. He was such a joyful, Godly man and always had wise words of wisdom. I see the Safreed family as my family and they will be in my prayers. I will deeply miss him and his funny ties.

I met Daryl and Nancy at Ambassador Baptist Church many years ago when our children were just babies.  He was wonderful person, and a true example of a Godly man.  He was always so positive, lovely and encouraging.  He prepped by son, Pete, for the SAT and ACT exams, and always ended the sessions with words of praise and support. He always saw the best in people.  We were blessed to know him.

Mr. Safreed was a true example of a godly man. My 3 children were blessed to have been his students and they will never forget him. I have been a colleague for 14 years and it was a pleasure to work with him. I have the assurance given to us through The Lord Jesus Christ that Mr. Safreed is in heaven with his savior and we will see each other again in heaven. Thank you for your years of teaching and ministry and for always living a life which pointed to Jesus!

I was so blessed to have had him as a teacher for 3 years.  He inspired me to write, to sing, to teach and to pray.  He was an amazing and caring teacher and I know that God used him in mighty ways.  Heaven's choir just got one voice stronger. Until we meet again in heaven.....

You are already greatly missed Mr. Safreed.  I know you are now complete and there is no pain.  We who are left behind are the ones who feel the pain of the empty void left behind by your presence.  One day we will be reunited again and rejoice together.  I thank you for teaching me, by your example, how to pray with those in need immediately.

Feel so blessed that my oldest son (Nicholas Silva) was able to be a small part of both of your lives. Both awesome mentors educationally and spiritually.

WOW.....Daryl was such an inspiration to all those who had the WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY of knowing him. I can't thank God enough for blessing me with Mr. Safreed as a teacher.  Mr. Safreed was one of those people who left footprints in your heart and mind.  He will never be forgotten and I am so thankful and blessed to have known him.  I hope he knew how much he was loved and respected.  He was truly a great man of God, teacher, and friend.  Thank you, Mr. Safreed, for the impact you have made and the legacy you have left behind. And thank you, Lord, for his life and everything he did.

So very sad to hear of Daryl having to leave this earth so soon.  What a wonderful, joyful person to be around.  He knew the Scriptures and was a terrific Bible teacher.  I know heaven is a happier place because Daryl is there enjoying the Savior he loved.  Our deepest sympathy to Nancy and family. Mr Safreed was the only teacher that I felt cared enough to sit down with me and any student that needed the time. I know of two lives that are touched forever by him. The world has lost a good man and great teacher. He will be missed and never forgotten.

So sad to hear that one of the most amazing teachers I ever had has passed away. Very few teachers in school or college ever taught me half as much as he did. His "vocational project" junior year cemented my career choice. I remember how happy he was about 10yrs ago when I went by Florida Christian and told him that I'd joined the FBI. I'm sorry for all future students at Florida Christian because they are missing out! High school English/Literature will never be the same. 

I was recently talking to a fellow '98 classmate about Mr. Safreed's classes. We've all had teachers we love, some we hated...or at least really disliked... But neither of us could think of a single person who disliked Mr. Safreed or his class! He was a great teacher and great person who actually cared about everyone who set foot in his classroom.

Mr. Safreed was always such a happy guy, I know he'd want us smiling not crying...so enjoy the Safreed quotes...  :)

Mr. Safreed was always full of bursting energy and spirit in all of his classes. I don't know a single student from FCS who didn't love him. He was a great man and teacher. He will be missed by the entire community, and all who knew him. It was pleasure having known you Mr. Safreed, til we meet again.

We are so blessed to have had a small part in Daryl's life.  He had a passion for his students and lived his life as an example of Christs love.  Thank you to Nancy and the boys for sharing him with us.  He will be missed here, but heaven is rejoicing with his Home Going.

Daryl was truly a friend to everyone.  I know him through our church, both in his teaching of a Bible Fellowship class, and his faithfulness in our choir in spite of his heavy teaching and tutoring schedule.  Though a master teacher, he also showed such a humble spirit always.  He was known for stopping to pray for people right on the spot, and always tried to keep up with everyone's illnesses or other prayer needs.

I'll see you on the other side, as we worship our Lord together!

The Lord's love always shined through him. What a legacy he has left to us all. Thank you for your godly example, Daryl.

You took a C-average English student to believe he had A+potential.  I could hardly pass remedial English, but you had a strong passion to help me achieve.  Furthermore, you invested in my spiritual life.  You taught me how to love Jesus more throughout your actions and love for poetry and literature.  In college you kept all my English assignments just to prove to future classes, that even mediocre students can do excellent work.  As a doctoral student now, I've seen you investment in my life.  You taught me to write and read, but most importantly how to live my life, fully, for the love and glory of our Lord.  I look forward to seeing you in heaven!

I wish I could get  to Miami in time to take part in either of the memorial services but will not be able to do so.  Nancy and boys, I think you know how much I love you all and maybe a little of how dear Daryl was to me as a friend and coworker.  Will be praying for all of you.

Daryl was a precious friend and a fine example of a man who walked with his God.  As an educator he inspired not only his students, but also other teachers who shared his passion for education.  He was a fantastic English teacher in the school classroom; at church he was a great and gifted Bible teacher. Mr. Safreed was one of the kindest, smartest, and most caring people I have ever met - I am lucky to have had him as my 11th & 12th grade English teacher. I know for a fact that he has impacted so many people's lives, giving his students constant encouragement to follow their dreams and strength to persevere through the trials in life. I am truly saddened to know that he is no longer with us & has lost his battle with cancer - but I know that all of the jokes, sayings, and memories that are left of him will be cherished and never forgotten.
