Xan was born in Montgomery, Alabama on April 27th, 1986, and spent most of his adult life in Birmingham. Above all else, he was deeply loved by his family, whose constant presence, advocacy, and devotion shaped the man he became. His parents and sister were his greatest champions and fiercest advocates, and time spent with family brought him comfort, joy, and connection throughout his life.
For the past 19 years, Xan lived at Glenwood, an organization providing residential and lifelong support for individuals with autism. At Glenwood, Ossia Horn and her team of compassionate caregivers became his family away from home. His roommates Art, Robert, and Patton were like brothers, and a community of close friends always enriched his days through meaningful routines, outings, and experiences that he truly loved.
Xan lived courageously with autism and epilepsy, always meeting life with resilience and a strong heart. He delighted in his Power Rangers and trains of all sorts. He was never one to turn down a chance to go out to eat with family or his roommates- whether it was pizza, “chips” (Mexican), or spring rolls. He was an accomplished artist from his days at Studio By The Tracks, and he loved attending all of the dances and dress-up parties with his friends at Glenwood. His joy, sincerity, perceptiveness, and spirit left a lasting mark on all who knew him. The reach of his influence among his peers and caregivers is endless.
He is survived by his parents, Angie and Philip Young; his sister, Carolyn Parker; his brother-in-law, Andy Parker; and his cherished niece and nephew, Murphy and Baker. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elsie and Rex Young, and Sally and Larry Crockett.
Xan’s life was a gift, and his impact will be felt forever.
