She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Rankin O’Brien; her mother and father, Madelyn and Austin Daugherty; her brother, Thomas; and by her nephews, Charles, Ethan, and Nathaniel. Alice is survived by her sons, Mitchell O’Brien of Hoover, Alabama; Richard O’Brien of Columbia, Mississippi; and Chris O’Brien of Katy, Texas; her daughters-in-law, Christie O’Brien of Hoover, Alabama; and Kelley O’Brien of Katy, Texas; her siblings, Claude Daugherty (Olene) of Pascagoula, Mississippi, Charles Daugherty (Angie) of Moss Point, Mississippi, Betty Buckley (Anthony) of Lucedale, Mississippi, Glenn Daugherty (Kerri) of Lucedale, Mississippi; sister-in-law, Brenda Daugherty of Pascagoula, Mississippi; and by her grandchildren, Caroline, Mary Cate and Connor O’Brien, all of Katy, Texas.
Alice enjoyed working for years in school cafeterias in the Pascagoula-Gautier School District, and also in the deli departments of Wayne Lee’s and Jerry Lee’s Grocery in Pascagoula. Afterwards, she spent years as her husband’s caregiver after he suffered a catastrophic stroke.
Alice was an extremely kind and gentle soul who could talk to anybody. Upbeat, always with a smile and friendly manner, she tried to remain positive even in the worst of times. A devout Christian, a Baptist, she trusted in her faith to see her through, and it did. She will be missed!
