It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Anita Louise George Pilato, beloved mother, sister, wife and friend, who passed away peacefully at her home on October 4, 2025, at the age of 75.
Born in Birmingham, AL, on August 20, 1950, to A.B. George and Mary Ann Smaha George, Anita was a woman of immense love, strength, and grace, whose life was a testament to her unwavering dedication to her family.
Anita graduated from John Carroll High School and Jacksonville State University and went on to a fulfilling career at Skin Pathology Associates in Birmingham, where she was known for her compassion and dedication to her work. However, her most treasured roles were that of mother to her two children, a beloved sister and a devoted friend. Anita had a remarkably kind spirit and was loved by many. She cherished every moment with her family and friends. She was an excellent cook, who loved family dinners at her house.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by her husband, William Pilato; her son, Matthew Pilato (Amie), and daughter, Natalie Pilato Andrews (Kenny); her grandchildren, Luke Pilato and Gia Andrews; her sister, Kathy George Mezrano; nephew, Jason Mezrano (Stacey); niece Michelle James; and great nephews Devin James, Peyton James and Maddox Mezrano. Anita also leaves behind a host of friends, and all these people were a source of immense joy in her life.
We will celebrate Anita's life at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Homewood on October 9 with visitation at 10:30 and a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB in her honor.
