Ann Elaine Jackson (née Brondos) peacefully departed this life on September 10, 2024 at the age of 100, surrounded by her loving family. She leaves to all who knew her a remarkable legacy of goodness, warmth and kindness.
Proud of her Slovakian heritage, Ann was the daughter of Michael and Mary Brondos, who immigrated to America in 1920-21. They settled in Steubenville, Ohio, where Ann was born on Easter Sunday, April 20, 1924 and baptized the same day. Her family later moved to Elyria, Ohio, where she skipped a grade and graduated from high school at the age of 16. Subsequently they moved to Dearborn, Michigan and Ann went to work as a secretary at the legendary Willow Run plant in Ypsilanti, which produced B-24 Liberator bombers for the World War II Allied war effort. It was there that she met the love of her life, Ralph Mann Jackson of Birmingham, Alabama, a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. The couple wed in Detroit on December 22, 1945 and moved to Birmingham shortly thereafter, where they raised their family.
For the next 50 years, Ann and Ralph enjoyed an exceptionally happy marriage, until Ralph's passing in 1996. Ann was also predeceased by her parents; her siblings Mary, Mike, Sue and Andy; and her son-in-law James Bond. She is survived by her devoted children, Nancy Owen (John), Mark Jackson (Ellen) and Linda Bond; daughter-in-law Karen Rapkin; her grandchildren Evan Owen, Kyle Owen (Savannah), David Bond (Lori) and Richard Bond; and her great-grandson Garrett Bond.
Paramount to Ann was her family, which benefited endlessly from her caring, support and boundless love. She found great joy in her faith and was a longtime and dedicated member of Mountain Chapel Methodist Church.
Ann's family wishes to thank all those who provided help in the past few months. Your support has meant the world.
The funeral will be held on Monday, September 16th, at Mountain Chapel Methodist Church, located at 2541 Rocky Ridge Road, Birmingham, Alabama 35243, with visitation at 1:00PM, followed by service at 2:00PM. All friends and family are welcome and appreciated. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in Bessemer, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in memory of Ann be sent to Mountain Chapel Methodist Church for the Matthew 25 Fund.
