Anna M. Bordenca M.D., F.A.A.P. was born February 26, 1939 in Birmingham, Alabama and died October 7, 2023 following a short illness. Anna valued education, as "the one thing they can't take away." She attended Martin Elementary School where she was double promoted three times, graduated from Phillips High School, and graduated from Howard College (Samford University). From the time she was four years old, Anna wanted to be a doctor, driven by the desire to care for her sick father. Following her years at Howard College, she attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine, one of only 3 women in her class. After completing an internship and residency program at The Children's Hospital of Alabama, she dedicated her life to medicine. She practiced as a board-certified pediatrician for over 30 years in Huntsville with Dr. June Foley. During her career, Anna also trained many residents in Pediatrics at Huntsville Hospital.
Outside of medicine, Anna spent her time with her friends and family. She loved antiquing, going to garage sales and finding a bargain. Anna was an active member of the Women Of Prayer group. This diversified group of women gathered weekly for prayer, scripture reading, and fellowship, developing strong friendships and a close community.
Anna was notorious for spoiling her many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Referring to herself as Santa Anna, she enjoyed shopping the entire year for Christmas presents. Much thought and love were given in the selection of these gifts. Anytime children came to her house, they were able to choose something from her closets full of surprises. Her generous nature touched many lives outside of her family as she routinely supported individuals down on their luck in the community.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents Vincent and Lena Latham Bordenca, her grandparents Michael and Madeline Latham and Charles and Anna Bordenca. She was recently preceded in death by her nephew, Chief Petty Officer Christopher Sabens.
Anna is survived by her brother Dr. Charles Bordenca (Marie) and sister Mary (Dr. Charles) Sabens. Also nephews and nieces Dr. Mark Bordenca (Amy), Christine Bordenca RN, Charles Sabens (Lindsey), Dr. Elizabeth Sabens (Dr. Joseph) Liedhegner, Dr. David (Rachel) Sabens. Her grand nephews and nieces are Isabella, John-Charles, Matthew and Samuel Bordenca, Dominic and Giavanna Mitchell, Aaron Maniscalo, Madeline and Natahley Sabens, Caroline, Lucas, and Evelyn Liedhegner, Nikolaus and Lillian Sabens and Gregory Sabens.
