

Audrey May Sanford was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on April 4,1926 to Herbert and May Tress Helfen. She was a long-time resident of Hoover, Alabama. She was predeceased in 2013 by her dear husband of 61 yrs. Richard E. Sanford.
Audrey was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She pursued a career in medical technology and retired from Southern Research Institute in Birmingham, Alabama as a research medical technologist.Audrey was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker in addition to maintaining a career. Her interests included gardening, baking, sewing, arts and crafts, playing bridge, bowling, art and travel. She belonged to the Central Alabama Hosta Society, Ikebana International Birmingham and the Birmingham Daylily Society. She was a long time parishioner of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, in Hoover, and a member of the St. Joseph's Guild. She was a former volunteer at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and the Birmingham Museum of Art.
Survivors include daughter Karen, sons Gary, Michael and David, granddaughters Kristin, Erin and Megan, grandsons Jaaron and Dylan and great granddaughter Aarilyn.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date and will be held at the St. Peter the Apostle Columbarium garden.
Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (205-879-3401) in Homewood.
