Barbara Gail Evans MacLeod joined her family in heaven on December 31, 2021. She was born to Anna Lamont and Gomer Dennis Evans, Sr on May 18, 1933. After Ramsey High School, where she was a member of the Theta Kappa Delta sorority, Barbara attended the Ward Belmont School for Girls (now Belmont University) in Nashville. When her father was in a serious car accident requiring extended hospital care, Barbara kept the family business going while her older brothers finished college. She later returned to school at Birmingham Southern.
Barbara was one of the earliest debutants presented by the Redstone Club in the 1950's. She was married to the love of her life, Roderick Moore MacLeod, Jr. before his life was cut too short by illness.
With 70 years of service, Barbara was the longest working employee of Evans Tree Service which her father founded. After his death, Barbara and her brother, Barry Evans, continued the business until retiring in 2018. Barbara and Barry also founded Athena Pest Control which they managed for many years before selling it. Barbara was the familiar, friendly voice of both companies. She was known to countless numbers of customers as “Barbara at Evans Tree Service” or “Barbara with Athena.”
Above everything, Barbara was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend. She was truly the glue that kept her immediate and extended family together. She was preceded in death by her parents, oldest brother Gomer Evans, Jr, and her husband. She is survived by her daughters Barbara Crane and Margaret MacLeod and three granddogs.
Barbara was one in a million and will be truly missed!
There will be a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery on Wednesday, January 5th at 11:00 a.m. Afterwards, the family will be receiving visitors at Margaret’s home.
