Barbara Patton McCarthy

Barbara Patton McCarthy, age 76, of Birmingham, AL, passed away Friday, June 13, 2014. She was born Feb 14, 1938, to Robert W. and Nellie Sheehan Patton, Jr., in Meridian, MS. Barbara is a graduate of Bessemer High School, where she was a majorette in the marching band and a class beauty.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her grandson Houston Mahaffey.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Thomas C. McCarthy, children Gary S. Mahaffey (Stacy), Lisa Mahaffey (Paul McClain), Mark P. Mahaffey, and Michael A. Mahaffey (Kris), stepson Christopher T. McCarthy (Kathy), sister Madelle Covert (Meridian, MS), grandchildren Handey Oddo (Nathan), Ben Mahaffey (Lindsey), Cody Mahaffey, Madison Mahaffey, Chase Mahaffey, Bragen Mahaffey, and Grant McClain, and great-grandchildren Ellie and Marisa Oddo. She also leaves many life-long friends.

Visitation for Mrs. McCarthy will be Monday, June 16, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM. Burial will be at Vahalla Cemetery in Midfield, AL.
