

Barbara was born June 3, 1942, in Washington, D.C. She graduated from Gadsden High School and earned bachelors and advanced degrees at the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and Phi Beta Kappa honorary fraternity.
Barbara was the daughter of Ann Sherrod Carlton, of Mount Royal Towers in Vestavia Hills, and the late Clayton C. Carlton. In addition to her mother, Barbara is survived by her brother, Eric Carlton (Cheree) of Vestavia Hills. She was predeceased by her husband, J. W. Traylor.
Barbara enjoyed a long career in public relations and fundraising, including 25 years with St. Vincent's Hospital and Foundation.
Barbara was a true patriot, holding memberships in the Birmingham Territory Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the George Maris Chapter of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century (of which she was president), the Alabama Charter Chapter of the National Society of the United States Daughters of 1812, and the Southern Cross Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
A memorial service will be held for Barbara in the Rutland Chapel at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church, of which she was a member, 2061 Kentucky Avenue, Vestavia Hills, at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 27. The family will receive visitors in the church parlor, beginning at 10:00. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to KDS DAR School, 6077 Main Street, Grant AL 35747, or to Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church.
